Letters to the Overlooked #2

Intro:
If you’re serious about chasing greatness, there’s going to come a time when you feel completely lost.
Maybe it’s a slump that won’t end, a velocity plateau you can’t break, or a stretch of time where you feel like the game is moving forward, and you’re standing still.

This month’s letter is for the player stuck in that place. It’s also for the parent who doesn’t know what else to do to help. If that’s where you are right now, let me say it clearly:

You’re not behind. You’re just in the fog. And if you keep moving, you’ll find your way.

Dear 17-Year-Old Randy,

I know you’re confused right now.

You’re training harder than ever, but you feel like you're getting nowhere.
You’re questioning everything, your delivery, your swing, your plan, your dreams.
You’ve started to wonder if all this work even matters.
If maybe this whole thing just isn’t meant for you.

I get it. I’ve been there more times than I can count.
And I need you to hear something that no one else may be telling you:

You’re allowed to feel lost.

Feeling lost doesn’t mean you’re failing.
It doesn’t mean you’re lazy, or broken, or missing something everyone else has.
It just means you're in the middle.

The middle is messy.
You’ve gone too far to turn around, but you can’t see the end yet.
You’re not new to the journey, but you're not sure where it’s going.
And that’s exactly where growth lives, in the fog, not the finish line.

This is where most people quit.
They don’t quit because they don’t want it.
They quit because they thought it would feel clearer by now.
They thought confidence would come first, and then results would follow.

But it doesn't work that way.
You act your way into belief. You move your way into clarity.

One day, the fog will lift.
You’ll look back and realize this was the most important part.
The part where you kept going, even when it made no sense.
The part where you learned how to navigate uncertainty, not run from it.

So here’s what I want you to do:

  • Show up anyway.
  • Trust the work, even if you can’t see the results yet.
  • Talk to your coach, your dad, your teammates. Don’t isolate.
  • Remember what got you started in the first place.
  • And for the love of God, give yourself some grace.

You don’t need to have all the answers right now.
You just need to keep moving forward, one honest rep at a time.
Because clarity doesn’t come from standing still. It comes from movement.

And you were born to move.

Randy
